Mr. William Herbert "Billy" Burnette, Jr. age 73, of Talking Rock, GA. passed on Saturday evening, December 19th, 2009 at his residence. Born on August 4th, 1936 to his late parents Genevieve Elizabeth Thomas and William Herbert Burnette, Sr. in Talking Rock, GA., he was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a graduate of Gilmer High School, Class of 1955, a Life Member and Alumni of the Future Farmers of America, also a member of the Georgia Cattlemans Association, and Young Farmers Association. He attended Young Harris College and North Georgia College, a veteran who served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, and was a farmer by trade, who loved the land he worked. Mr. Burnette is preceded in death by his sister Bennie Miller. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Betty Hicks Burnette of the home in Talking Rock, daughters and sons-in-law Teri and Jeff Gibson of Talking Rock, Paula Burnette Holder of Ellijay, son and daughter-in-law Brett and Stephanie Burnette of Talking Rock, grandchildren and in-law Candace and Brian Poole of Talking Rock, Holli Holder of Ellijay, Baylee, Beth, and Bree Burnette of Talking Rock, sisters Jeanette Burnette Coleman of Smyrna, GA., Anne Burnette Ellis and Helen Burnette Mashburn of Kennesaw, GA., brother and sister-in-law Tommy and Linda Burnette of Talking Rock. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 21st, 2009 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Russell Hood and Rev. Larry Stover officiating, music and vocals were performed by Rev. Irene Wofford, Ronnie and Linda Hyde, Whitney Burnette and Isaac Hensley. Military graveside services followed in the Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with military rites performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard, with interment in Keeter Cemetery.
