William John Benton, age 88, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday,  May 26, 2026.

John was born on October 6, 1937, in Jefferson, Georgia, to the late James Pope Benton and Sadie Lou Sailors Benton. He was a member of Nine Mile United Methodist Church and a graduate of John Marshall Law School. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later dedicated his career to the United States Government as an FBI agent, retiring in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Ouida Earlice Benton of Hixson, Tennessee; daughters, Leslie Anne Benton of Sarasota, Florida, and Susan Camille Benton (Louis Kluger) of Alexandria, Virginia; son, John Jason Benton (Ana Carolina Benton) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tanner Ochs Sandor, Olivia Benton Ware, Piper Violet Kluger, and Chloe Marie Benton; brother, Jerry Dean Benton of Cartersville, Georgia; as well as two nephews and one niece.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Nine Mile United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Westmoreland officiating. Interment will follow in the Nine Mile Community Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nine Mile Community Church Cemetery Fund c/o Sandra Sales at PO Box 296 Ellijay, GA 30540 in memory of Mr. Benton.
