Rev. Western Lewis Cantrell, age 87 of the Cartecay community in Ellijay, GA, passed away on Friday morning, January 24th, 2025 at the Wildwood Health Care Center in Ludville, GA. Everyone who knew Lewis knew that he loved the Lord. He spent his life preaching the word of God, praying for others, singing about the Lord and spreading the love of the Lord to all those around him.

Lewis was born on October 6th, 1937 in Ellijay, GA to his late parents, Western and Bertha Carter Cantrell. He was a member of River Hill Baptist Church for over 75 years, where he was ordained as a deacon and served as a song leader for decades. Lewis was also called to preach and had a true gift to sing and to write poetry and songs. He owned and operated Cantrell's Body Shop and worked in the sanitation department at Gold Kist. DeFoor and Inez Southern, and brothers, Freeman, Harold, Howard and Estes Cantrell.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Bryan Dorsey of Toccoa, GA; son, Marty Cantrell of Ellijay, GA; grandchildren, Cassidy Cantrell and Katelynn Cantrell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Otis Suddeth and Carolyn and Wendell Teague, all of Ellijay, GA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, January 28th from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lloyd Worley, Rev. Russell Hood and Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Music and vocals will be by Keith Defoor, Ronald and Linda Hyde and Thelma Champion. Pallbearers will be Greg Teague, Kevin Teague, Les Cantrell, Mitchell Cantrell, Donny Cantrell and Troy Southern. Graveside interment will follow in the River Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 11am until the funeral hour at 2pm on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025 at Logan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the River Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Adam Holt, 226 Morning Glory Drive, Ellijay, GA 30536 in memory of Lewis Cantrell.
