Ms. Vernice Marlene Newberry, age 58 of Ellijay, GA, passed on Saturday April 15th, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Ellijay, GA on August 3rd, 1964 to her mother, Bertha (Weaver) Newberry and late father, Escolee Odell Newberry. Vernice was a member of the Baptist Faith and worked for Parkside Nursing. She loved her family and was a beautiful singer. She is Preceded in death by her significant other, Roger Hopper and brother, Frankie Newberry.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Philip Davenport, Jr., Rev. Tony Newberry, Rev. Jackie Ellington and Rev. David Nicholson officiating. Music and singing will be by The Kerr Family. A Graveside service will follow in the Newberry Family Cemetery with Logan Hightower, David Hightower, Colton Parten, Braxtyn Newberry, Daniel Nicholson, Jonathan Southern, Will Martin, Ben Fisher and Gene Hightower serving as pallbearers. Isaiah, Zachary Hopper, and Tre Adkins will be Honorary Pallbearers.

Vernice is survived by her daughter, Amanda Leigh Hightower, son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Britney Hightower, grandsons, Logan and David Hightower, mother Bertha Weaver Newberry, sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and Layton Green, Thelma Champion, Tamer and Dan Southern, Faye Mansfield, Vickie McClure and Vera Southern all of Ellijay, GA, brother, Danny Newberry of Rydal, GA, several nieces, nephews and cousins, beloved pets, Elam, Patrick, Baby Boy and Baby Girl.

Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to help fund the funeral expenses. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 19th from 4:00pm-9:00pm at the funeral home.
