Obituary

Scott Howard duBois, 76, passed away on June 8, 2026, at his home in Ellijay, Georgia, after a long and courageous battle against metastatic bladder cancer.

Scott was born on February 6th, 1950, to his late parents, Howard Scott DuBois and Mary Louise Slade DuBois in Mt. Vernon, Washington, and lived there until 1967 when his parents moved to Friday Harbor, Washington, (one of the San Juan islands). After graduation he joined the Air Force and was assigned to McClellan AFB. He met his loving wife Janis Lane Scribner, became engaged in two weeks and married six months later. They would have been married for 56 years on December 6, 2026.

Scott and Jan remained in the Sacramento area to complete advanced degrees at the University of California, Sacramento in Speech Pathology and Audiology. Both were hired by Grant JT. Union HS District/Twin Rivers Unified School District where they worked for 30+ years serving students with special needs. They have two sons: Aaron duBois, a paramedic and California Crisis Team Manager who lives with his wife, Janelle, and her daughter, Charlize, in Galt, California, and Adam duBois, a graphic designer who resides in Phoenix, AZ, with his two high school-aged daughters, Georgianna and Alexa.

Scott was a veteran, a lifelong motorcycle rider, gun enthusiast, and baker. During the 80’s Jan and Scott danced to “country swing” music. They traveled extensively by motorcycles and later as RVers. He was also a self-taught artist who made wonderful stained-glass pieces and metal sculptures, and a talented home-improvement jack-of-all-trades who remodeled several homes and gardens in the Sacramento area. He will be missed by Home Depot, and Lowes where he was a regular and valued customer.

Scott is also survived by Jan’s brother Jerry Scribner and sister Jeanne Domeret and their families, who lived nearby in California during the years before Scott and Jan retired. He has two sisters…Rebecca Lyn Spangler and Cynthia Louise Mullins…who may reside in Washington.

After 2 years in hospice, Scott and Jan moved to Ellijay to be close to Jan’s sister, Jill Gray and her husband Phil. Jill and Phil were instrumental in arranging additional care and services through the Northside Hospital System and provided additional support to Jan for another two years as the primary caregiver.

Scott will be remembered for his kindness and as the thoughtful, caring husband, father, and grandfather he was throughout his life.

Logan Funeral Home and Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
