Mrs. Sara "Ginger" Virginia Free (Byess) Hearn, age 79, of Ellijay, passed away on Tuesday, November 11th, 2025.

Ginger was born on May 19, 1946 in Canton, Georgia to the late Hallman and Bernice Duncan Byess. She worked in the banking industry for many years as a mortgage loan officer, and was a devoted member of the Ellijay First United Methodist Church, where she was known to be an excellent Bible teacher. She is preceded in death by her son, Matthew J. Hearn.

Survivors include husband Stephen Hearn; children and in-laws; Julia Free Benoit(Victor Kennedy), Heather Hearn Kirkbride (Scott), Courtney Hearn, Lori Rawling Hearn, Melissa R. Hearn, Taryn Franks, Howard "Trey" David Free, III (Teresa), Richard B. Hearn, Stephen D. Hearn, Jeffrey D. Hearn; 11 grandchildren also survive.

A graveside service will be held at a later date, she will be interred at the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Monroe, GA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ellijay First United Methodist Church.
