Rev. Samuel "Sam" Newell May, age 51 of Ellijay passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024. Sam was born October 17, 1972, in Dalton, GA to his late parents Newell Howell and Mary Alice (McVey) May. Sam was a member of the Little Baptist Church. Sam served his country honorably in the US. Army. Sam is preceded in death by his wife Catherine P. May.

Survivors include his children Calob May, Ellijay, GA, Grant May, Ellijay, GA, Catrina May, Smyrna, GA, Sarina May, Lawrenceville, GA, sisters Kim and Squeak Jones, Ellijay, GA, Trina May and Michael Davis, Crandall, GA, Cristy and Bryan Hensley, Ellijay, GA, special friend Kenny Fendley, special caregiver Berdie Ramirez, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday, May 26, 2024, from 1 pm to 8 pm. The Funeral Service will be on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 1 pm at the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Burt, Rev. Greg Hamilton, Rev. Steve Jones, and Rev. Bryan Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with Squeak Jones, Kenny Fendley, Nathan Hensley, Nathan Jones, Clay Scott, Michael Davis, Robbie Cantrell, and Stacy Deyton serving as pallbearers.
