Obituary

Pennie Smith went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 27th, 2021 at the age of 83. Born Penelope Dorothy Peet on May 30, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, Pennie was the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy(Brouyette)Peet. As a child, she spent her summers with her cousins in the Chicago suburbs. She attended boarding school, and her spirit of adventure led her to enlist in the Navy. After an honorable discharge, she lived in New Orleans where she enjoyed her love of cooking, music and dance - Dancing anything from a jig to a Fais-do-do. At a moment's notice her little feet, her beautiful smile (complete with red lipstick) brought any room alive with her high energy and impish beauty. Then she moved on to Miami where she met her husband, Donald Smith...also a previous Navy man. They flourished in Miami into a small family of four with two Great Danes, one dachshund, one cat, and a fish. They moved to Ellijay, Ga. where they traded their fast cars and ocean fishing for riding motorcycles in the mountains, gardening, hunting and lived a simpler life. It was here that she recommitted her life to her Lord and focused on studying his word. Pennie would always accept a challenge, using her sewing expertise to create an extensive sewing room for anything from jeans to dog clothes. Her talents ranged from working for a Senator, credit collections, running a restaurant, using a jack hammer or any other power tool, to doing Cartwheels with her granddaughters at age 70. She loved fully. She loved completely, with every thing in her being. She was faithful, loyal, committed and she kept her promises at all costs, all traits of a true "Brouyette Woman". Her parents would be so proud of her as is her surviving family. She is survived by her daughters Vikki Smith Martin (Kenneth), Trina Smith, and granddaughters Kendra, Essie, Moriah Martin, Claire, and Sarah Heyrman and adopted son, Montey Lane, her diamond in the rough. Her beautiful light is dimmed here on Earth, but shines bright, as our beacon in God's Heaven. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, June 10, 2021 at Logan Funeral Home Pavilion with North GA Honor Guard officiating. Interment will be at the GA National Cemetery.
