Obituary

Paul Orlin Layman, born July 21, 1935, in Bristol, Virginia, passed away on March 14, 2026 at the age of 90 after a short and intense fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nancy, 2 sons, JB and Scott, 2 daughters-in-law, Tannis and Jane, 2 grandchildren and their spouses, Reece and Faye Layman, Tanya and Rens De Koning, 5 great-grandchildren - Micah Layman, Felicity Layman, Katrina Layman, Charlotte De Koning and Madeleine De Koning, his 93-year old sister, Sharlene Hedrick, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur Reece Layman and Thelma Brady Layman and his brother, John Reese Layman.

His long and accomplished life was marked by service, dedication, and an enduring spirit of adventure. Following his graduation from high school, Paul enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, serving honorably in Kodiak, Alaska. At age 21, he married Nancy McEwen, with whom he eloped, beginning a lifelong partnership grounded in devotion to the Lord.

After completing his military service, Paul pursued higher education and earned his credentials as a Chiropractor. In 1962, he and Nancy relocated to Boca Raton, Florida, where he established his chiropractic practice. For forty years, he served his community with professionalism, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to improving the well being of his patients. He retired in 2002.

Paul served as President of Rotary International in Boca Raton, FL and Secretary of Rotary in Grand Cayman. He was active on three Airport Aviation Boards in Boca Raton, the Cayman Islands, and Ellijay, GA.

Retirement allowed Paul to fully embrace the pursuits he loved. An instrument rated pilot, he built and flew his own airplane. He was a licensed A & P Mechanic in the United States, and the United Kingdom. He was also an avid sailor, scuba diver, and motorcycle enthusiast.

Dr. Layman will be remembered for his integrity, his dedication to his family and profession, and the remarkable breadth of his accomplishments. Throughout his life, he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Coordinator, and a Church Board Member. His legacy endures in the many lives he touched and the example he set through a life lived with purpose and dedication to the Lord.
