Newell Howell May, age 84 of Ellijay, GA., passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023. Newell was born in Ellijay, GA. on October 31, 1938, to his late parents Sam May and Sarah Camilla Wishon of Ellijay, GA.  Newell was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Newell is preceded in death by daughter-in-law Catherine May of Ellijay. Newell was a farmer and a devoted husband of 62 years and a loving father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife Mary Alice McVey May of Ellijay, GA., son Rev. Sam May of Ellijay, GA., daughters, Kim and Squeak Jones of Ellijay, GA., Trina May and Michael Davis of Crandall, GA and Cristy and Rev. Bryan Hensley of Ellijay, GA. 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters in law; Rebecca Jones, Linda Wikle, and Loren and Donna McVey; Other family includes Kenny Fendley and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 6-9 PM. and Friday, October 20, 2023, from 1-8 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:00 PM. at the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Lloyd Worley and Rev. Roy Scott officiating the service and Rev. Bryan Hensley officiating Graveside. The singers will be Loran & Donna McVey and family, Chloe Schnuphase, Natalie Hensley, Lauren Jones, and Rev. Bryan Hensley.
