December 16, 1940 – November 2, 2023
Mr. Milton "Mickey" Scott Brinkley age 82 of Ellijay GA went home to the Lord on Thursday November 2 2023 .
He was born on 12/16/40 to the late Mildred Valentine Brinkley and Eugene Brinkley in Atlanta GA. He grew up in Smyrna GA attended Campbell Highschool Graduating Class 1959. GA and Graduated from Rhinehart College in Waleska GA and attended University of GA in Athens . He spent 3 years in the US Navy serving 1 year in Vietnam as Hospital Corpsman. He retired from Cartersville Medical Center December 2003 as 3rd Shift Supervisor as Lab Technologist.
He was saved at age 12 at Smyrna Methodist Church, moved to Ellijay in 1998 where he became a member of Turniptown Baptist Church and Baptized in Turniptown Creek. He joined Liberty Baptist Church for several years and returned to Turniptown Baptist Church with both Church members surrounding him in love, friendship, and prayer. While in college and with both churches He sang in the choir.
He loved the Atlanta Braves where he spent 25 years going spring training where he met and made many friends for life. He also loved his Georgia Bulldogs.
Preceding him in death his Stepfather William Claude Mitchell, Sister Lucy Evans and Brother Bill Mitchell.
Surviving Sister's Patricia Brinkley Simms of Sparks NV, Claudia Mitchell (Bill) Harper of Kennesaw GA, and Brother Benjamin White "Skip" (Pam) Mitchell of Rossville GA, and many nieces and nephews .
Survivors Include his wife of 44 years Barbara Joan Brinkley, Daughter's Michelle Brinkley (David) Cottongim of Cartersville GA and Lisa Brinkley Brownlee of Cartersville GA. Stepdaughter Melissa Shacklett of Cleveland TN and Step Son James Shannon (Tina) Loy Knoxville TN.
8 Grandchildren Lindsey (Mitch) Basnett of Cartersville GA, Laura (John) Hillengas of Chattanooga TN, Gabrielle Brownlee, Chloe (Fiancé Lane Crosley) and Seth Brownlee of Cartersville GA. Andrew (Maegen) Loy of Knoxville TN , Michael (Clarissa) Loy Owatonna MN, Matthew Loy of Knoxville TN.
9 Great Grandchildren, Carper & Brexton Basnett, Kinsey, Jackson, Maddie, Chayanne, Vivian Loy. Rachel & Emma Loy with baby brother Eli due in November 2023.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday November 5th from the Turniptown Baptist Church with Rev. John Reece, Rev. Steve Jones, Rev. David Nicholson, Rev. Ricky Brown, Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Special music will be by Tony Withrow, Stephanie Jones and Family, the Nicholson Family, and the Turniptown Church Choir.
Graveside service will follow at the cemetery with Seth Brownlee, Michael Loy, Mitch Basnett, Jonathan Hillengas, Lane Crosley, and John Morrow all serving as pallbearers.
Honorary Pallbearers Andrew & Austin Weaver, AJ McLure, and Benjamin & Caleb Morrow
Celebration of life reception will be held in the fellowship hall after Graveside service at Turnip Town Baptist Church.
The Family will receive friends from 4 pm – 8 pm Saturday November 4th at the Logan Funeral Home.
Military Honors Ceremony will be held at a later date.
