Marilyn "LaVerne" Huie Jones, age 95 departed this life for her eternal home early on October 19, 2023. She was born April 23, 1928, at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA to Daphna Robinson Huie and Joseph Clarence Huie. She grew up in Atlanta until she turned 11, then she and her mother moved to Ellijay, GA. She attended Berea College in Berea Kentucky, graduating in 1950. She married Hugh Reed Jones (from Ellijay) in 1951 and remained married to him until his death in October 2000. She taught third grade at King Springs Elementary School in Smyrna, GA for 21 years.

She is survived by her son Stephen Jones (Margaret), Ellijay, GA, and daughters Dahna Susan Jones Armour (Robert), Ellijay, GA, Melanie Pauline Jones Johnson (Kurt), Ellijay, GA, grandchildren Joshua Tomlinson (Ashley), Angel Hughes, Danielle Armour, Lance Armour (Tara), great-grandchildren Jaxon Tomlinson, Azelphia Tomlinson, Skyler Tomlinson, Izabella Bullington, and Ryder Hughes.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 2 pm to 4 pm. The Memorial Service will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, in the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Susan Armour speaking.
