Kenneth Eugene
Davis
April 5, 1928 – October 24, 2023
The Rev. Kenneth Eugene Davis, age 95, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2023.
Kenneth was born on April 5, 1928, in Jewell, Iowa, son of the late Floyd Davis and Gladys (Bissey) Davis. He graduated from Jewell High School, class of 1945. Kenneth served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952 prior to continuing his education at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He earned a bachelor's degree in religion from Drake in 1955. It was there that Ken met the love of his life, Doris (LeGrant) Davis whom he married on June 3, 1955 at the University Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. Ken went on to receive his Master of Divinity from Yale University in 1958 and became an ordained pastor of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Ken's first position was pastor at the University Christian Church in Champaign, Illinois, followed by pastor positions at the First Christian Church in Leon, Iowa and later Hampton, Iowa. He was known by his parishioners as a kind and dedicated pastor who worked tirelessly to provide care, guidance, and comfort to his congregation. In 1977, Ken felt called to a different form of ministry, that of nursing home administration. He worked in this capacity from 1978-1996, working in a nursing home in Nora Springs, Iowa. Ken had a gift in connecting with the elderly, using his sense of humor, his joyful disposition, and his loving attitude for all the patients he served.
Ken lived such a full life. He loved to be engaged and involved in his community and was the mayor of Nora Springs for several years. Ken loved music and singing. He was a member of the community band and chorus, theater, and sang in his church choir for many years. He mentored youth and would always lend a helping hand to friends or neighbors who needed a handyman or just a listening ear. He and Doris also lived in Austin, Minnesota in a retirement community for 18 years. In 2018, Ken moved to Georgia to be near family.
Ken loved spending time with his family and leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity to his loved ones. He loved being together to share a meal, play games, share stories, sing, and would always bring a smile to our face with his joyful nature. He enjoyed meticulously tending to his beautiful rose bushes which produced gorgeous flowers. He loved to do crossword puzzles, play cribbage, and tinker in his shop in his spare time. Ken will be greatly missed by so many that were touched by his unconditional love and kindness, his joyfulness, and his smile.
Ken was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Doris Davis, and his brother Frederick (Phyllis) Davis. He is survived by their two daughters, Janelle (Alan) Condra of Ellijay and Lori Davis (Arthur Rovner) of South Burlington, Vermont; grandchildren Alissa Condra (Dani Hepperlin), Seth (Stacy) Condra, Jared Soule, and Leah Soule; great grandchildren Davis Condra and Remi Hepperlin; niece Jerra (Ed) Wilkinson and nephew Fred B.
