Obituary

Joyce Grant Young born Dec 7, 1937, passed away on March 30, 2022. She was married to Eugene Cecil Young, who preceded her in death, for 52 years. She was also preceded in death by Parents Maude & Arthur Grant, Brothers Don, Carl (Tuck), & Lowell Grant, Sisters Opal Kee, Maxine Davis, Betty Davis, & Joan Tucker, son-in-law Alan May, &Brother-in-law Charles Young. She is survived by Daughters and sons-in-law Gena & Jack Davis, Tracey & Mike Hurd, & Denise & Tom Cox, and Grandchildren Brandon (Morgan), Joshua (Tiffany), & Christopher (Victoria) Helton; Noah May & Laura (McClellan) Grice; Candice (Joshua) Chancey, Jacob (Elizabeth) Pierce, & Ty Cox. 12 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, as well as godson Levi Higdon and goddaughter Ashley Turner also survive. Mrs. Young was a 3rd-grade teacher for many years and retired from the Gilmer County school system. She touched the lives of many children. Even after retirement, she continued teaching, tutoring many students, and teaching an adult Sunday School class for many years. She was a member of the Calvary Way Baptist Church. She loved traveling with Eugene and together they visited 48 states and Canada, driving to each. She was a talented seamstress and for many years, used her talent to make costumes for the GHS Theater, while Eugene built sets. The costume closet was dedicated to her and Eugene and is known as the Forever Young Costume Closet. She loved her family and was greatly loved by not only her family but many others. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 1, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Calvary Way Baptist Church with Rev. Claude Mathis and Rev. Scottie Mathis officiating. Brandon Helton, Joshua Helton, Christopher Helton, Jacob Pierce, Ty Cox, Noah May, Joshua Chancey, McClellan Grice, and Levi Higdon are serving as pallbearers. Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to Calvary Way Baptist Church in memory of Joyce. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.loganfuneralhome.com.
