Obituary

John Everett Goins, Jr. (Johnny) Johnny, 79, was born on 11/25/1942 in Jackson, Tennessee, to his late parents John Everett Goins, Sr., and Nellie Elizabeth Davis Goins. Johnny's family moved to Atlanta from Cleveland, Tennessee, when he was 10 years old. He grew up in the mid-town area and had a paper route from near the Fox Theater on Peachtree Street to the Piedmont Hospital/Darlington Apartments area. Johnny served honorably in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, from 1967 to 1969. During a time when he was off base for a couple of days after basic training, he had a bad car wreck and sustained serious injuries, including breaking his back. This was during the Vietnam era. Johnny helped train the troops for Vietnam, but, because of his injuries, was not deployed himself. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter. John and Hilda were married on August 19, 1972, by Dr. Charles Stanley, at the First Baptist Church Chapel, located at the corner of Peachtree Street and Fifth Street. John and Hilda lived in Atlanta for a while, then after a year or so, moved to Fayetteville, Georgia. They started their family there having a son and daughter. John and Hilda are members of the Fayetteville Church of Christ. John enjoyed anything to do with cars and trucks, having an extensive career owning a trucking company, becoming a car dealer, later owning a custom car and truck company, having the distinct pleasure of designing and customizing Alan Jackson's Ford Mustang, featured on the back cover of Alan's "Don't Rock the Jukebox" Album. Johnny was very creative and could envision things that the rest of us could not see. Johnny hauled cars after he closed the custom car company to various dealers, mostly Ford Dealers, as they were the ones he was most in touch with as he customized new cars and trucks for Ford Dealers all over the southeast and all the way to New Jersey. Jacky Jones was the dealer we worked with the most when we were in the custom car business, and we also delivered the most to him as well. The last of Johnny's endeavors was to deliver exotic custom cars all over the country, most of them going to Florida, California, Las Vegas, and Washington State. He loved it. Those people entrusted him with the best of the best, and I say He was the best of the best, delivering the best of the best! John was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Bill Wilson of Tucker, GA. Billy was Johnny's big brother and they shared the same birthday. Because of Johnny's dementia and Parkinson's, he never knew that his brother had passed away. Survivors are his wife of 49 years, Hilda DeFoor Goins, Fayetteville, GA (formerly of Ellijay), daughter Jillian Elisha Rafter and husband Aaron Ashley Rafter, Peachtree City, GA, son James "Jimmy" Elvis Goins, Fayetteville, GA; granddaughters Marlee Rayne Rafter and Livia Skye Rafter, Peachtree City, GA. John is also survived by sons from a previous marriage, John Everett Goins, III, Hiram, GA, and Jeffrey Eric Goins and wife Deb, Winston, GA, granddaughters Amylia Ruth Kosich, and Brooke Elizabeth Goins, step granddaughter Krysta Ann Fry and husband Cody, great-granddaughter Sophia Ann-Marie Kosich, and step great-grandson Parker James Fry. John is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Lee Wilson, Tucker, GA, nieces Karan Renee Wilson, Jacksonville, FL, and Lisa Michelle Wilson, Marietta, GA, and great-niece, Raven Nichole Wilson, Atlanta, GA. John will be cremated at his request. A military memorial service will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Logan Funeral Home Chapel, with military rites by the North Georgia Honor Guard. At a later date, Johnny will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery, in Canton, Georgia. When Johnny was well, his personality was bigger than life and he would absolutely love for everyone to attend.
