James Revis Beverly, known to friends and family as “Jim” or “J.R.”, passed away on July 24, 2026.

After spending most of his adult life in metro Atlanta, during his last stage of retirement, he resided with his wife, Donna, in their mountain river cabin in Ellijay, Georgia. A native of Moultrie, Georgia, Jim was the youngest of seven children born to the late Randall and Maddie Beverly. Jim is survived by his wife, Donna, a nephew Rev. Gene Beverly (Jeanie), nieces Ellene Stephenson (Buddy), Carolyn Hardin, Ellen Coble(Ron), Laura Stinson(Larry) and numerous great-nieces and great- nephews and extended family. Jim was a devoted and loving father to his son Todd Beverly and to his adopted daughter Kelin Ortega and adopted son Miguel Bardales. He is also survived by stepsons whom he dearly loved…Darren Crosby, David Sloan, Will Crosby, and Joe Crosby. As a young man, Jim served in the navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Returning home from service overseas, he attended Georgia Tech and graduated with an engineering degree. He enjoyed a long career first as an engineer and later as a top executive at Atlanta Gas Light Company. As a father of a mentally disabled child, Jim was an advocate for legislative reform in the area of disabilities and served on the board of the National Autism Society, pioneering development of programs within the public school systems. Jim was a board member of Hi Hope Service Center for more than 35 years, overseeing the establishment of workshops for the disabled as well as the construction of group homes for adults who cannot live independently. In addition to his involvement with nonprofit disability organizations, Jim was the CFO of the Christian nonprofit, International Mission Connection, a ministry founded by his wife to serve the needs of young people in Honduras. As a missionary following his retirement from the corporate world, Jim impacted countless young people who were struggling to find hope and a future in an impoverished culture. At the time of his death, Jim was a member of The Orchard Church in Ellijay Georgia and enjoyed participating in his community group and hosting monthly Bible studies at his cabin. Jim’s strong Christian faith was foundational to everything he chose to do with his time and his relationships. He earnestly valued God and family and took his commitments seriously. Jim and his wife, Donna, travelled around the world in addition to serving in international missions. Whether serving here or abroad, Jim’s constant prayer was that Jesus be glorified and that all could strive to live lives that could reflect God’s goodness. Jim Beverly leaves behind a wife who cherished him and scores of family and friends whose lives were profoundly touched by this gentle man.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Steve Dusek officiating. Special music will be presented by Jeff Parker and the Orchard Church Worship Team. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy in recognition of Jim’s faithful service to his country. 

Interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 11:00am on Tuesday August 4th.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the service hour of 2:00pm on Thursday July 30th at the Logan Funeral Home.
