Hoyal B. West age 85, of Ellijay, GA., passed on Wednesday, May 20th, 2015, born February 20th, 1930 in Gordon County, GA., to his late parents Otes and Flara Bell Morris West. He was a member of the Cherry Log Christian Church. Mr. West graduated Gordon County High School, earned his 1st Masters in Math Education at Vanderbilt & Peabody in Nashville, TN and a 2nd Masters in Math at the University of Illinois. He was working on his Doctorate. He served his country honorably and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves. Mr. West retired as a Professor of Math at Berry College in Rome, GA. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at the Cherry Log Christian Church with Dr. J. David Griffin officiating. Survivors include wife of 56 years, Ruth Ella West of Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law LeighAnn and Jeff Lukens of Greer, SC.; sons & daughters-in-law Blane & Melanie West of The Woodlands, TX., Kevin West of GA., Paul & Melanie West of Decatur, GA.; eight grandchildren; siblings, Arven West, Max West, Daniel West, David West, Doris Jackson, Thelma Crocket, Dale Chambers and Sara Ruth Mulkey.
