Rev. Herbert Charles Davenport age 73 of the Roundtop Community Ellijay, GA., passed from this life Saturday morning, July 16th, 2011 from his residence. Rev. Davenport was an ordained Baptist minister and a member of New Antioch Baptist Church. He was born on September 15th, 1937 to his late parents Garner Melvin and Bertha Orton Davenport in Blue Ridge, Fannin County, GA. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a welder by trade, and a child of God by choice. Rev. Davenport is survived by wife of 48 years Frances Mull Davenport of the home in Ellijay; daughters and sons-in-law Annette and Junior Piper of Ellijay, Marlene and Billy Poole of Ellijay, Judy and Leon Piper of Ellijay, Linda Piper of Talking Rock, GA.; son and daughter-in-law Timmy and Cheryl Davenport of Ellijay; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters J.C. Davenport of Orlando, FL., Sara Mathison of Cartersville, GA., Polly Hardwick of Riverdale, GA.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 18th, 2011 from the New Antioch Baptist Church in Fannin County, with Rev. Phillip Green officiating, vocals by the church choir. Graveside interment service will follow in the New Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandchildren Daniel Poole, Jason Poole, Shane Piper, Robert Piper, Eric Piper, Brandon Davenport, Ethan Pennington, and Adam Piper. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17th. 2011, until 8:00 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home and Chapel.
