Mrs. Helen Lorene (Simmons) Sutton, age 90, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Mrs. Sutton was born on May 16, 1935, to the late John Henry Simmons and Winifred Nell Reece Simmons. A woman of faith and dedication, Helen was a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Ellijay Chapter #340. She retired after many years of service from Panorama Orchards, Ingles, and Piggly Wiggly. Helen is preceded in death by her mother, father, brother Johnny Simmons, and sister Mary Sue Davis, daughter Janice Stokes, and husband Carl Sutton.

She is survived by her loving children, Cathy Meder and her husband Robert of Kennesaw, Georgia; Melissa Mullins of Talking Rock, Georgia; and Alvin Sutton and his wife Pat of Chatsworth, Georgia. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Major General David Sanford and his wife, Rhonda; Ali Herring and her husband Ryan; Brandice Whitechurch and her husband Mark; Daniel Sutton and his wife Jenily; Ashley Lackey and her husband Michael; Hope Bridges; and Jonathan Mullins and his wife Alaska. She is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren: Alexander, Joshua, and Justin Sanford; Lily, Luke, and Olivia Herring; Jadon and Caleb Whitechurch; Makai and Mali Scalf; Mason Bridges; and Aurora Mullins, and sister Betty Jo Perry.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, with Rev. Bryan Hensley, Rev. Jamie Kerr, and Rev. Joey Patterson officiating. Makai Scalf, Dewayne Bridges, Mason Bridges, Jadon Whitechurch, Caleb Whitechurch, Curtis Davis, Luke Herring, Adam Teague, and Jeremy Sellers serving as pallbearers.  Eastern Star graveside rites will be conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star, Ellijay Chapter #340. Interment will follow in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, February 6th at the Logan Funeral Home.
