Helen Ruth (James) Barnes, age 86 of Ellijay, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Helen was born July 3, 1937, in Ellijay, GA to her late parents Arvil and Ruth (Parks) James. Helen was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Tails Creek Baptist Church. Helen is preceded in death by her husband Morris Barnes, daughter Ruth Ann Barnes, brothers Grady James, and Glen James, and great-grandchildren Dakota Pritchett, and Lane Adams.

Helen is survived by her daughter Sue and Ronnie Abercrombie, sons Michael Barnes, Mitch, and Sonya Barnes, 8 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, brother Billy and Brenda James, and special granddaughter/caretaker Ann Pritchett.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 11 am to 1:30 pm at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 2 pm at the Tails Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Jones, Rev. Billy Dotson, Rev. Tony Withrow, and Rev. Sammy Adams officiating. Special singing will be by Tracy Abercrombie, Wanda Davis, and Harold Sanford. Interment will follow in the Tails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Tracy Abercrombie, Byron Abercrombie, Bradley Barnes, Jeremy Nelson, Jesse Adams, Riley Barnes, Caleb Pritchett, and Tristan Adams serving as pallbearers. Billy James, Ronnie Abercrombie, Leon McClure, Maurice James, and all of the great-grandsons are serving as honorary pallbearers.

The family is kindly accepting flowers in memory of Mrs. Barnes. Donations may be made to the Tails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in memory of Helen c/o Tracy Abercrombie 40 Fox Trail Ct. Talking Rock, GA 30175.
