Mr. Hassel David Chastain, age 80, of Ellijay, passed away on Saturday, April 4th, 2026.
Mr. Chastain was born on December 11th, 1945 in Ellijay to the late William David Chastain and Stella Teague Chastain. He was a proud and devoted member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church and dedicated his life to serving the Lord. He retired from Dillard Smith Construction as a Regional Manager. Mr. Chastain is preceded in death by his parents William David Chastain, Stella Teague Chastain, and Pauline Waddell Chastain, sister Edith Chastain, and brother Hartscel Chastain.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mrs. Sarah Jones Chastain of the home in Ellijay; son and daughter-in-law Matt and Cindy Chastain of Ellijay; grandson Luke and Kaitlyn Chastain of Ellijay; great grandchildren Brenleigh Kay "Baby Girl" Chastain and Jasper Jane Chastain; sisters and brother-in-law Betty M. Cantrell and Regina and Reggie Mathis of Ellijay; brothers and sisters-in-law Edward and Beverly Chastain and Rickey and Pauline Chastain; sister-in-law Gail Kemp Chastain; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026 from the Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Hensley and Rev. Chris Chastain officiating. Special music will be by Regina Mathis and the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Choir.
Interment will follow in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Robby Cantrell, Tyler Cantrell, Levi Cantrell, Tim Smith, David Smith, Jeremy Sellers, Jeff Watts, Eric Latshaw, and Danny Reid. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Logan, Van Powell, Carl Edwards, Waldo Pierce, Tim Page, Brannon Holt, Brent Barclay, Bobby Sutton, Jerry Layne, Bob Findley, Greg Ledford, Sam Bowen, Buddy Coffee, Brian McKee, Harold McKee, Charlie Scott, Charlie Wells, Michael Wells, Billy James, and Leo McKee.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Tuesday, April 7th, 2026 at Logan Funeral Home.
Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Mount Vernon Baptist Church; P.O. Box 1435, Ellijay, Georgia 30540; or to Compassus Hospice in memory of Mr. Chastain.
Logan Funeral Home and Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
