Mr. Gary Gaston Matthews, age 65 of Ellijay, GA passed on Monday, January 29th, 2018 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper. Mr. Matthews was born July 27th, 1952 in Roseboro, NC to his late parents, Payten Matthews and Sara Ruth Ezelle Matthews. He was a graduate of Roseboro-Salemburg High School, Class of 1970. Gary retired from the Ellijay Gilmer County Water Authority where he worked as a Water Plant Operator. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Faye (Robinson) Matthews of Ellijay, GA daughter & son-in-law, Valerie & James O'Neil of Myrtle Beach, SC, sons & daughter-in-law, Gary, Jr. & Jennifer Matthews of Warsaw, NC and Charles Payten Matthews of Warsaw, NC, sister & brother-in-law, Helen Jean & Herman Faircloth of Surf City, NC brother & sister-in-law, Stanley & Goldie Matthews of Autryville, NC, grandchildren, Samantha Cox, Danielle Cox, Joseph Cox, Joshua O'Neil, Cody Matthews, Rachel Whitley, Charles Matthews II & Jonathon Smith, niece, Teresa Faircloth Hampton, nephews, Jimmy Faircloth, Michael & James Matthews. Memorial services will be held at 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 1st, 2018 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Stover and Rev. Jamie Dotson officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Irene Wofford. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm-4:00pm on Thursday, February 1st, 2018 at Logan Funeral Home & Chapel.
