Diane Carol
Burton
February 9, 1956 – December 14, 2025
Diane Carol Burton, age 69, of Ellijay, passed away on Sunday, December 14th, 2025.
Diane was born on February 9th, 1956 in Rockford, Illinois to Grandison Louis and Marian Carol Nelson Bingeman. She attended East High School in Rockford and went on to obtain certification as a paralegal. Diane was a paralegal for many years in criminal and family law. In retirement, she was a part-time bookkeeper for R.D. Garwood. Diane was an incredibly kind and loving individual and selfless to a fault. She was witty and funny, and her laugh filled any room she was in. Diane enjoyed reading, baking, and assembling puzzles. She loved the beach and any excuse to put her toes in the sand. She had a deep love for animals and showered her beloved dogs with an abundance of love and attention. Diane is a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Ellijay where she performed a number of administrative tasks as part of the church council for many years. Among other things, Diane organized directories, fellowship events, and the Apple Festival booth featuring authentic German cuisine, and she also co-authored "Recipes of Hope" with other members of Hope Lutheran Church. Diane was an avid thrifter and collector of antiques; in fact, she dedicated much of her time to operating a flea market booth in Blueridge, Georgia on the weekends with her friends. Diane was a dedicated mother and wife. Her daughter, Morgan (Cook) Hendrix was born on September 24, 1988. She cherished motherhood more than anything and she was a wonderful mother who gave so much of herself for her daughter. She married her husband, Derek Burton, on February 13th, 1998. They built their life together in Ellijay, Georgia where they lived for 27 years. Diane and Derek loved traveling to the Bahamas together and exploring the places they stayed. They found great joy in each other.
She is survived by her husband, Derek Burton of the home in Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law, Morgan and Daniel Hendrix of Marietta; mother, Marian (Bingeman) Rosswaag of Ellijay; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and James Short of Vinton, Virginia; and brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Maria Bingeman of Edgewater, New Jersey. Diane loved her family, her friends, and her dogs. And she loved her Lord. She will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Thursday, December 18th, 2025 from the Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor David Smedley officiating.
