Obituary

Mr. David P. Willette, age 65 of the Coosawattee Community in Ellijay GA, passed away Sunday evening, October 22nd, 2017 in his home with his beloved wife Jewell Willette of 31 years by his side. Mr. Willette was born on October 8th, 1952 in Star Lake, NY to his late parents Alex & Marie Willette. After graduating from Clifton Fines High School in Star Lake, NY, he joined the United States Navy, and rose to the rank of Master Chef Petty Officer (E9), Saturation Master Diver, where he served 27 honorable years. His greatest source of pride was the time spent on the USS Parache (submarine), the most decorated U.S. vessel in the Navy, where he received his Legion of Merit, the fifth highest medal in the military. He traveled throughout our world, not only during top secret operations, but experimental operations that assisted in what saturation diving is today, along with assisting in the writing of the U.S. Dive Manual. David Willette is survived by his wife, Jewell Willette, their son, Captain Andrew Willette of the U.S. Army, his wife Kelsey, and their children, Owen, Andersen, and Jackson Willette. David and Jewell's daughter and son in law, Codie and David Burns and their children Lachlan and Freya Burns. Also, a brother Jim Willette and wife Valerie, David's Uncle Tom Dudrana who resides in Florida, and three daughters from a previous marriage April, Andrea, and Annette also survive. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 11th, 2017, Veterans Day, from the Logan Funeral Home pavilion with Chaplain David Feathers officiating. Military graveside rites will be performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Bagpipes will be played by George McClellan.
