Chief Master Sergeant Charles William Meeks, USAF Ret., age 89, of Ellijay, GA (formerly of
Savannah, GA) passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his
family.
CMSgt Meeks was born on February 13, 1933, in Lockhart, SC, to his late parents, William
M. and Bethel (Chambers) Meeks. In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Greenville, SC.
That began a 41+ year career in service to the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard. During
this time, he was the recipient of the Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Ribbon, the Air
Force Longevity Service Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Occupation
Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. His years of service spanned the
Reconstruction Era post-WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm.
CMSgt Meeks was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Sue Meeks. Survivors include his son
and daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. Warren (Michelle) of Ellijay, GA; stepdaughters Gina Edwards
and Donna Dickerson, both of Savannah, GA; grandchildren Christina Mosley (Myron), Shane
Warren, Justin Miles, Taylor Medina, Charles Hinson, Chad Hinson, Jeremy Knabb, Trista
Gordon, Casey Edwards, Carla Edwards and Shaun Edwards. Several great-grandchildren
also survive.
Interment will take place at the Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery in Savannah, GA at 2:00PM on January 7,
2023. Military graveside honors will be provided by the United States Air Force.
