Mr. Charles (Charlie) Anthony Edmondson, 74, of Ellijay passed away at his home on Thursday, December 29, surrounded by family. He valiantly and optimistically fought cancer for a number of years before finally losing his battle.

He was born February 18, 1948, in Ellijay, Georgia to the late Ernest and Alice Garland Edmondson.

He was a 1966 graduate of Gilmer County High School. After graduation, he attended Southern Poly Tech and later Georgia Southern University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.

He then returned to Ellijay and worked as office manager at Ellijay Telephone Company. After a few years, he was recruited by State Farm. He became a State Farm insurance agent in Ellijay. He later became a manager and was an overseer of agents in ten counties. When asked to move to Atlanta, Charlie chose to return to agency and became an agent in Blue Ridge where he continued and completed his career. He worked a total of over 44 years for State Farm.

Charlie was involved in many community activities in both Gilmer and Fannin counties over the years including Rotary Club and Lions Club. He was an active member of Cartecay United Methodist Church until his health deteriorated.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, farming, cooking, John Wayne movies, and Willie Nelson music. His favorite activity was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Charlie was a kind, friendly, happy man. He enjoyed life and laughter. His frequent and hearty laughter will be missed by everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Carolyn Crisp Edmondson; son Cole Edmondson (Hannah Jones), daughter Cadi (Paul) Davenport; and grandchildren Renly Davenport, Sage Davenport, and namesake Rory Charles Davenport. He is also survived by brother Roger (Shirley) Edmondson; niece Angie Edmondson; and nephews Michael (Ashley) Edmondson and Mark Edmondson. Many cousins and many, many friends also survive.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday January 2nd, 2023 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Heather Nysewander and Min. Butch Jones officiating. Special music will be by Mrs. Susan Hochkins. Interment will follow in the Cartecay United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dale Cochran, Dale Chaney, Kenny Warren, John Thomas, George Bunch, III, Rick Garland, Michael Edmondson, Phil Cagle, Ron Cagle, and Marty McQuary all serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Morgan, Earl Cagle, and Bob Kolterman.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Sunday January 1st and again from 11:00am until the service hour of 2:00pm on Monday January 2nd at The Logan Funeral Home.
