Mr. James "Jim" Edward West age 67 of Ellijay, Ga. passed on Tuesday August 6th, 2013 at the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. He was born July 10, 1946 in Rome, GA., to his late parents Lawrence Edward and Elsie Gwendolyn Cody West. A member of the Ellijay First United Methodist Church, graduated Rome High School Class of 1964 and attended Southern Poly Technical College. Mr. West served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1968 until 1970 in Germany, and was employed in management with Georgia Power #316 for 38 years. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ellijay First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 75 McCutchen Street, Ellijay, GA. 30540, in memory of Jim West. Survivors include wife of 47 years, Kay Griffin West of Ellijay; daughter and son-in-law Tracie and Walter Drake of Newnan, GA.; son and daughter-in-law Brandon and Melissa H. West of Ellijay, GA.; grandchildren Harrison, Wesley and Wheeler Drake, Miles and Ava West; nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9th, 2013 from the Ellijay First United Methodist Church with Dr. Danny Barton and Dr. Ken Ray officiating. The body will lie-in-state from 10:30am until the service hour. Pallbearers will be Tom McManus, Jack Nunn, Dave Gibson, Dave Brantley, Walter Drake, Don Hill, Randy Higgins, and James Agan. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Brantley, Greg Hodges, Mark Blackwell, Gary Johnson, Gary Hamlin, Don Callihan, Joel Johnson, Walter Jenkins, King Kone, Michael Reader, Thurman Shumate, Phillip Johnson, the Creepy Crawlers, Marc Reece, and the employees and volunteers of Whitepath Golf Course. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 8th, 2013 at Logan Funeral Home and Chapel.
